FAIRFAX, Va., Oct. 15 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — Four of America’s leading
donor sperm providers have formed a new, non-profit association, the
Association of Gamete Donor Providers (AGDP). AGDP will help donor gamete
providers to share information and services, enhance educational programs
and promulgate policies and activities to benefit individuals and
organizations involved in all aspects of building families with the help of
donor gametes. AGDP’s founders and initial funders include: California
Cryobank; Cryobiology, Inc; Fairfax Cryobank and Xytex.
AGDP has approved and started development of a database prototype to track
anonymous sperm donors. This is the first combined effort by donor sperm
providers to establish a prototype database. AGDP is creating the database
prototype as a public service.
The prototype may be the first step towards establishing a permanent gamete
donor registry that will be donated to an independent group to further
develop and manage to meet the possible expanded needs of a working
registry.
The long term expectation of the AGDP is that all FDA registered gamete
donor organizations will participate in this effort. Information about
membership in the AGDP will be available in the near future.
