Since we just talked about CMV and its importance, I thought it worthwhile to discuss all of the other testing Xytex does on donors. Health is of the utmost priority for Xytex. Each donor is tested for a myriad of diseases, both viral and genetic. The following testing is completed on all donors, to secure the health and well-being of all potential mothers and children:
A physical examination for evidence of sexually transmitted diseases
A complete blood count
Blood typing
HIV 1 and 2 antibody testing
HIV/NCV NAT
Hepatitis B surface antigen
Hepatitis B core antibody testing
Hepatitis C antibody testing
Syphilis serology
HTLV I and II antibody screening
Full genital culture which includes testing for gonorrhea
Urine PCR testing for gonorrhea and Chlamydia
Urine testing for trichomonas
Genetic testing for cystic fibrosis
Genetic testing for hemoglobinopathies
Chromosome analysis
And, if the donor is African-American, Jewish or Mediterranean, he is tested for Sickle Cell, Thalassemia, Tay Sachs, Canavan and Gaucher.
